The National Stock Exchange or the NSE is the stock exchange of the largest democracy in the world – India. The National Stock Exchange is ranked 9th in the world on the basis of market capitalization. It operates throughout the country and is the largest stock exchange in India and the third largest in the world on the basis of the number of transaction taking place every day. It allows users to trade in capital market, derivatives market as well as debt market. The NSE has earned significant achievement over the two decades of its existence in the country.

With the closest competitor, the Bombay Stock Exchange, NSE has been able to make a mark for itself in the market and is now known for the various services that it offers. The main index in the national stock exchange is the NSE Nifty or the National Stock Exchange Fifty, which implies that it is an index consisting of 50 major stocks.
The NSE was established as a tax-paying company in 1992 while it was incorporated as a stock exchange in 1993 under the Securities Contracts Act. It commenced its operations in 1994.
