SENSEX TRADES
TAD HIGHER; CD, BANKEX RALLY

Indian equities are still trading on a flat
note with some buying interest seen in select index heavyweights. Consumer
durables, PSU and banking stocks gained ground.
Sensex was trading up 37.14 points or 0.21% at 17,436.12
with 18 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by
14.95 points or 0.28% at 5,293.55 with 31 components gaining.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 58.97
points or 0.34% at 17,457.95, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a
rise of 20.25 points or 0.38%, at 5,298.85.
Sensex Movers
I C I C I Bank contributed rise of 17.21 points in the Sensex. It was
followed by Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (15.77
points), Bharti Airtel (15.48 points), Housing Development Finance Corporation
(14.66 points) and H D F C Bank (8.18 points).
However, I T C contributed fall of 17.74 points in the Sensex. It was
followed by Tata Consultancy Services (15.81 points), Infosys (8.43 points),
Hindustan Unilever (7.99 points) and Tata Motors (4.32 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Bharti Airtel (3.23%), G A I L
(India) (2.38%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (2.19%), Hindalco Industries
(1.61%), I C I C I Bank (1.40%), and Housing Development Finance Corporation
(1.29%).
On the other hand, Bharat Heavy Electricals
(1.81%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.79%), Hindustan Unilever (1.38%), I T C
(1.06%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.92%), and Hero Motocorp (0.83%)
were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining
0.40% and 0.55% respectively.
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Alstom Projects India (0.66%), CORE Education and Technologies (0.2%), Aban Offshore (0.16%), Andhra Bank (0.13%) and Amara Raja Batteries (0.1%).
The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Adhunik Metaliks (4.34%), Advanta India (3.89%), Styrolution ABS (India) (1.24%), Aarti Industries (1.06%) and Reliance MediaWorks (0.51%).
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Alstom Projects India (0.66%), CORE Education and Technologies (0.2%), Aban Offshore (0.16%), Andhra Bank (0.13%) and Amara Raja Batteries (0.1%).
The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Adhunik Metaliks (4.34%), Advanta India (3.89%), Styrolution ABS (India) (1.24%), Aarti Industries (1.06%) and Reliance MediaWorks (0.51%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Consumer Durables index was at 6,421.39, up by 135.74 points or by
2.16%. The major gainers were Titan Industries (3.2%), Rajesh Exports (1.14%),
C.Mahendra Exports (0.71%), Gitanjali Gems (0.33%) and Bajaj Electricals
(0.18%).
The Bankex index was at 12,114.26, up by 126.59 points or by 1.06%. The
major gainers were I C I C I Bank (1.4%), Bank Of India
(1.34%), Canara Bank (0.77%), H D F C Bank (0.65%) and Bank Of Baroda (0.39%).
The Realty index was at 1,723.57, up by 16.96 points or by 0.99%. The
major gainers were Godrej Properties (3.51%), Phoenix
Mills (3.34%), Sobha Developers (2.44%) and D L F
(2.35%).
On the other hand, the FMCG index was at 4,853.46, down by 34.49 points or
by 0.71%. The major losers were Hindustan Unilever (1.38%), I T C (1.06%), Tata
Global Beverages (0.55%), Dabur India (0.35%) and Nestle India (0.24%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 1,543 advances against 1,055
declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
State Bank Of India topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover
of Rs. 455.72 million. It was followed by Larsen & Toubro (Rs. 220.19
million), Housing Development and Infrastructure (Rs. 209.43 million) and I C I
C I Bank (Rs. 203.22 million).
The volume chart was led by Lanco Infratech with trades of over 4.36
million shares. It was followed by Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision (4.31 million),
Onmobile Global (2.91 million) and Suzlon Energy (2.59 million).
