GLOBAL LEAD DEMAND EXPECTED TO RISE TO 4.8% TO 10.78 MMT IN 2012

Global refined lead demand is expected to increase by 4.8% to 10.78 million metric tons in the year 2012, as per the latest forecast released by International Lead and Zinc Study Group (ILSZG).
The demand from China is expected to increase by 7.3% in 2012. China lead acid battery production is expected to recover after the closure of many small plants in 2011 due to implementation of stricter environmental regulations.
India, Japan, Korea, Thailand and Vietnam are expected to show growth. The demand is expected to decline in Germany, Spain and UK resulting in overall fall in production of 0.7% in the region. Poland and Russia is expected to grow higher.
The global lead mine production is forecasted to rise by 4.9% to 4.88 million metric tons in 2012. Rise in China mine output will be the key for world lead output growth. China production is expected to reach 2.54 million tonnes, equivalent to 52% of world output.
World refined lead production will rise by 4.4% to 10.9 million tonnes in 2012. European production of lead is expected to rise by 4.4% driven by rise in Belgium, Sweden and UK. Higher output is forecasted in Canada, India, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea and US, ILSZG concluded.
