DATE: 24/04/2012
Italy's copper, aluminium production is expected to decline in 2012 as economic crisis and volatile metal prices hit demand, as per Assomet, Italy's Nonferrous Metals Association. Italy is one of the major European metal producers.
Production of copper and alloy semi finished products is expected to fall 2.4% to 1.033 million metric tons in 2012 while the production of aluminium and alloy semi finished products is expected to fall 4.7% to 783,500 metric tons with apparent demand falling 5.6% to 763,500 metric tons.
Country's production declined 4.8% to 1.058 million metric tons on y-o-y in last year while its aluminium and alloy semi finished products production fell 2.8% to 822,000 metric tons.
The demand and production situation in both industries deteriorated sharply in the final quarter of last year when Italy's economy turned sour amid growing concerns about the country's debt.
