GoldenNifty says: Indian equities slipped into the negative terrain on the back of sustained profit booking seen in index pivotals. Auto, Tech and Consumer Durables stocks dipped, while PSU and Capital Goods gained.
At 2.31 p.m., the Sensex was trading down 109.14 points or 0.68% at 15,830.22 with 20 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 28.65 points or 0.60% at 4,736.65 with 35 components falling.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 28.13 points or 0.18% at 15,967.49, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 9.65 points or 0.20%, at 4,774.95.
Bharti Airtel contributed fall of 17.2 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Tata Consultancy Services (16.3 points), Mahindra & Mahindra (16.18 points), Hindustan Unilever (14.07 points) and I T C (10.3 points).
However, I C I C I Bank contributed rise of 16.01 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Tata Motors (9.87 points), Bharat Heavy Electricals (4.71 points), H D F C Bank (2.65 points) and Hindalco Industries (2.37 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Tata Motors (2.63%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.84%), I C I C I Bank (1.65%), Hindalco Industries (1.13%), Cipla (0.67%), and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.44%).
On the other hand, Bajaj Auto (4.62%), Mahindra & Mahindra (4.28%), Bharti Airtel (3.09%), Hero Honda Motors (2.69%), Hindustan Unilever (2.66%), and D L F (2.30%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.22% and 0.05% respectively.
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were A I A Engineering (2.53%), Allcargo Logistics (0.62%), Amtek Auto (0.47%), A B G Shipyard (0.32%) and Alstom Projects India (0.26%).
The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Ador Welding (2.3%), Ahmednagar Forgings (1.02%), Action Construction Equipment (0.69%), INEOS ABS (India) (0.51%) and Advanta India (0.04%).
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were A I A Engineering (2.53%), Allcargo Logistics (0.62%), Amtek Auto (0.47%), A B G Shipyard (0.32%) and Alstom Projects India (0.26%).
The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Ador Welding (2.3%), Ahmednagar Forgings (1.02%), Action Construction Equipment (0.69%), INEOS ABS (India) (0.51%) and Advanta India (0.04%).
The Auto index was at 8,086.40, down by 114.58 points or by 1.4%. The major losers were Bajaj Auto (4.62%), Mahindra & Mahindra (4.28%), Hero Motocorp (2.69%), Bharat Forge (1.58%) and Maruti Suzuki India (0.26%).
The TECk index was at 3,463.57, down by 37.57 points or by 1.07%. The major losers were Bharti Airtel (3.09%), Idea Cellular (1.92%), Dish TV India (1.51%), Mphasis (0.52%) and Reliance MediaWorks (0.14%).
The Consumer Durables index was at 5,403.14, down by 43.6 points or by 0.8%. The major losers were V I P Industries (4.65%), Whirlpool Of India (1.97%), Titan Industries (1.4%), T T K Prestige (0.65%) and Bajaj Electricals (0.51%).
On the other hand, the PSU index was at 6,672.20, up by 55.59 points or by 0.84%. The major gainers were Bank Of Maharashtra(1.36%), Allahabad Bank (1.33%), Andhra Bank (1.19%), BEML (0.44%) and Bank Of Baroda (0.18%).
Market breadth was positive with 1,415 advances against 1,224 declines.
M M T C topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,502.38 million. It was followed by Hindustan Copper (Rs. 814.94 million), State Bank Of India (Rs. 804.85 million) and Tata Motors (Rs. 565.90 million).
The volume chart was led by Cals Refineries with trades of over 12.78 million shares. It was followed by Dazzel Confindive (5.79 million), Karuturi Global (5.13 million) and GVK Power & Infrastructure (3.92 million).
