Markets may open flat(9.28)
Indian equities are likely to open flat on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012. SGX Nifty trading at 4,773.5 (07.56 a.m.), 16 points higher than Monday closing of 4,757.5.
Asian stocks rose for a second day on optimism the US economy is weathering Europe`s sovereign- debt crisis. Japanese benchmark index Nikkei 225 rose 32.04 points, or 0.38%, to trade at 8,422.39.
Oil prices fell to USD 101.31 a barrel Monday in international markets. Benchmark crude on Monday fell by 25 cents to end at USD 101.31 a barrel in New York. Benchmark crude prices also dropped on Thursday and Friday of last week. Brent crude, used to price foreign oil varieties that are imported by US refineries, fell by 61 cents to finish at USD 112.45 a barrel in London.
US stocks ended slightly higher on Monday in a light-volume session as investors stayed cautious ahead of corporate earnings and key auctions for European debt this week. The Dow Jones industrial average gained 32.62 points, or 0.27%, to 12,392.69.
European stocks fell, as a summit between German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Nicolas Sarkozy failed to assuage concern over the debt crisis. UK`s benchmark index FTSE 100 declined 37.42 points, or 0.66%, to end at 5,612.26.
In the spot market, the Dollar Index decreased 0.06% to 80.94. It touched a high of 81 and a low of 80.90 after opening at 80.90 (21:15 ET).
