SENSEX VOLATILE;
TATA MOTORS, M&M, BHEL DRAG

Indian equities continue to trade on a flat note amid volatility led by
auto, consumer durables and capital goods stocks.
Sensex was trading down 49.66 points or 0.29% at 17,055.64 with 20
components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 15.90 points or
0.31% at 5,176.95 with 37 components falling.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened
flat with a rise of 8.07 points or 0.05% at 17,113.37, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 6.25 points or 0.12%, at
5,199.10.
Sensex Movers
Tata Motors contributed fall of 14.21 points in the Sensex. It was
followed by Reliance Industries (12.62 points), State Bank Of
India (10.25 points), Larsen & Toubro (7.79 points) and Bharti
Airtel (7.45 points).
However, Housing Development Finance Corporation
contributed rise of 5.84 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (5.02 points), Infosys (4.01 points),
Tata Power Company (3.29 points) and I C I C I Bank
(1.96 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Tata Power Company (1.72%), Coal
India (1.57%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.70%), Wipro (0.70%),
Sterlite Industries (India) (0.64%), and Housing Development Finance
Corporation (0.50%).
On the other hand, Tata Motors (2.72%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.71%), Bharat
Heavy Electricals (1.59%), Hero Motocorp (1.56%), Bharti Airtel (1.56%),
and State Bank Of India (1.50%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps underperformed their
larger counterparts declining -0.47% and -0.32% respectively.
The major losers in the BSE Midcap were Aban Offshore (2.54%), Alstom India (1.6%), Alok Industries (1.16%), Amara Raja Batteries (0.98%) and A I A Engineering (0.74%).
The major losers in the BSE Smallcap were A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.32%), Action Construction Equipment (0.87%), Styrolution ABS (India) (0.84%), Trident (0.53%) and A B G Infralogistics (0.1%).
The major losers in the BSE Midcap were Aban Offshore (2.54%), Alstom India (1.6%), Alok Industries (1.16%), Amara Raja Batteries (0.98%) and A I A Engineering (0.74%).
The major losers in the BSE Smallcap were A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.32%), Action Construction Equipment (0.87%), Styrolution ABS (India) (0.84%), Trident (0.53%) and A B G Infralogistics (0.1%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Auto index was at 9,004.63, down by 121.11 points or by 1.33%. The
major losers were Hero Motocorp (1.56%), Ashok Leyland (1.25%), Exide
Industries (0.38%), Bajaj Auto (0.22%) and Cummins India (0.15%).
The Consumer Durables index was at 6,219.14, down by 75.88 points or by
1.21%. The major losers were Rajesh Exports (2.87%), C.Mahendra Exports
(0.99%), Whirlpool Of India (0.76%), Blue Star (0.16%) and Bajaj Electricals
(0.08%).
The Capital Goods index was at 9,774.14, down by 98.84 points or by 1%.
The major losers were Alstom India (1.6%), BEML (1.09%), A B B (0.86%), A I A
Engineering (0.74%) and Bharat Electronics (0.27%).
On the other hand, the Metal index was at 10,435.44, up by 21.79 points or
by 0.21%. The major gainers were Coal India (1.57%), Sesa Goa (1.13%), Sterlite
Industries (India) (0.64%), Tata Steel (0.22%) and Steel Authority Of India
(0.11%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 895 advances against 1,376 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Hindustan Unilever topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of
Rs. 4,072.11 million. It was followed by Future Ventures India (Rs. 629.39
million), Adani Enterprises (Rs. 356.05 million) and State Bank Of India (Rs.
265.67 million).
The volume chart was led by Future Ventures India with trades of over
70.48 million shares. It was followed by Hindustan Unilever (9.14 million),
Adani Enterprises (1.82 million) and Lanco Infratech (1.41 million).
