SENSEX TRADES DOWN
110 POINTS; BANKEX, CG, POWER FALL

Indian
equities continue to trade lower led by banking, capital goods and power stocks. At
Sensex was trading down 109.83 points or 0.64% at
17,169.02 with 23 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by
30.25 points or 0.58% at 5,212.45 with 40 components falling.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened flat with a decline of
3.65 points or 0.02% at 17,275.20, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with
a fall of 9.15 points or 0.17%, at 5,233.55.
Sensex Movers
I C I C I Bank contributed fall of 17.59 points in the Sensex. It was
followed by Housing Development Finance Corporation
(16.07 points), H D F C Bank (15.57 points), Infosys (13.03 points) and Larsen
& Toubro (11.56 points).
However, Tata Consultancy Services contributed rise of 16.79 points in the
Sensex. It was followed by Maruti Suzuki India (4.27 points), Tata Steel (2.09
points), Reliance Communications (0.47 points) and Jaiprakash Associates (0.24
points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Bajaj Auto (2.54%), Maruti Suzuki
India (2.13%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.94%), Jindal Steel & Power
(0.83%), Tata Steel (0.61%), and Coal India (0.28%).
On the other hand, Dr Reddy`s Laboratories (2.80%), Bharat Heavy
Electricals (1.85%), Cipla (1.61%), I C I C I Bank (1.40%), Housing Development
Finance Corporation (1.36%), and Larsen & Toubro (1.27%) were the major
losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their
larger counterparts declining-0.17% and -0.11% respectively.
The major losers in the BSE Midcap were Anant Raj Industries (2.58%), Andhra Bank (0.36%), Amara Raja Batteries (0.28%), Alstom India (0.14%) and CORE Education and Technologies (0.02%).
The major losers in the BSE Smallcap were A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.76%), Adhunik Metaliks (0.9%), Aarti Industries (0.81%), Styrolution ABS (India) (0.72%) and Aanjaneya Lifecare (0.26%).
The major losers in the BSE Midcap were Anant Raj Industries (2.58%), Andhra Bank (0.36%), Amara Raja Batteries (0.28%), Alstom India (0.14%) and CORE Education and Technologies (0.02%).
The major losers in the BSE Smallcap were A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.76%), Adhunik Metaliks (0.9%), Aarti Industries (0.81%), Styrolution ABS (India) (0.72%) and Aanjaneya Lifecare (0.26%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Bankex index was at 12,053.97, down by 144.08 points or by 1.18%. The
major losers were Federal Bank (1.86%), H D F C Bank (1.2%), Canara Bank
(0.52%), Bank Of Baroda (0.43%) and Bank Of India (0.11%).
The Capital Goods index was at 9,959.64, down by 96.61 points or by 0.96%.
The major losers were Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.85%), Larsen & Toubro
(1.27%), Bharat Electronics (0.77%), Lakshmi Machine Works
(0.31%) and Alstom India (0.14%).
The Power index was at 1,938.23, down by 13.69 points or by 0.7%. The
major losers were Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.85%), G M R Infrastructure
(1.61%), NTPC (0.89%), NHPC (0.54%) and Power Grid
Corporation Of India (0.49%).
On the other hand, the Consumer Durables index was
at 6,400.05, up by 24.99 points or by 0.39%. The major gainers were Whirlpool
Of India (1.05%), Titan Industries (0.99%), Rajesh Exports (0.51%) and
Gitanjali Gems (0.14%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 1,121 advances against 1,588 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
State Bank Of India topped the value chart on
the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 694.84 million. It was followed by Maruti Suzuki
India (Rs. 561.23 million), D B Corp (Rs. 304.02 million) and I C I C I Bank
(Rs. 235.39 million).
The volume chart was led by Kingfisher Airlines
with trades of over 5.22 million shares. It was
followed by Lanco Infratech (2.74 million), Bampsl Securities (2.08 million)
and Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision (1.91 million).
