SENSEX ADDS 70 POINTS; TCS, HDFC BANK, CIPLA RALLY

Indian equities recovered on Friday on the back of firm Asian
cues and strong numbers posted by TCS yesterday. Banking, teck and power stocks gained.
Sensex was trading up 70.08 points or 0.41% at
17,302.63 with 22 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher
by 18.15 points or 0.35% at 5,253.40 with 38 components gaining.
India`s largest software exporter, Tata
Consultancy Services (TCS) registered a consolidated net profit of
37.39% to Rs 33.18 billion for the quarter ended June
30, 2012 as compared to Rs 24.15 billion for the quarter ended June 30, 2011.
On sequential basis, TCS`s consolidated profit grew 14.60% over previous
quarter.
Total consolidated revenues has increased from Rs 107.97 billion for the quarter ended June 30, 2011 to Rs 148.69 billion for the quarter ended June 30, 2012, representing increase of 37.71%. On quarter on quarter basis, it posted increase of 12.14% in the revenues.

The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 36.65
points or 0.21% at 17,269.20, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a
rise of 7.50 points or 0.14%, at 5,242.75.
Sensex Movers
H D F C Bank contributed rise of 22.16 points in the Sensex. It was
followed by Tata Consultancy Services (15.46 points), I C I C I Bank (7.52
points), Housing Development Finance Corporation (6.36 points) and I T C (4.8
points).
However, Infosys contributed fall of 13.05 points in the Sensex. It was
followed by Maruti Suzuki India (1.6 points), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries
(1.5 points), Sterlite Industries (India) (0.91 points) and Tata Motors (0.79
points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Tata Consultancy Services
(1.81%), H D F C Bank (1.73%), Cipla (1.46%), G A I L (India) (0.94%), NTPC
(0.88%), and Hero Motocorp (0.85%).
On the other hand, Infosys Technologies (0.94%), Maruti Suzuki India
(0.78%), Jindal Steel & Power (0.64%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries
(0.49%), Sterlite Industries (India) (0.48%), and Dr Reddy`S Laboratories
(0.26%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining
0.47% and 0.68% respectively.
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Allcargo Logistics (2.3%), Aban Offshore (1.63%), A I A Engineering (0.99%), A B G Shipyard (0.78%) and Alstom India (0.33%).
The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Aegis Logistics (1.05%), Styrolution ABS (India) (0.85%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (0.63%), Advanta India (0.36%) and Aanjaneya Lifecare (0.07%).
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Allcargo Logistics (2.3%), Aban Offshore (1.63%), A I A Engineering (0.99%), A B G Shipyard (0.78%) and Alstom India (0.33%).

Sectors in Limelight
The Bankex index was at 12,291.00, up by 83.14 points or by 0.68%. The
major gainers were H D F C Bank (1.73%), IDBI Bank (0.78%), I C I C I Bank
(0.6%), Bank Of Baroda (0.2%) and Canara Bank (0.19%).
The IPO index was at 1,521.42, up by 7.89 points or by 0.52%. The major
gainers were Bajaj Corp (13.69%), Aster Silicates (2.91%), BS TransComm
(1.55%), Claris Lifesciences (1.08%) and Commercial Engineers
and Body Builders Company (0.51%).
The TECk index was at 3,200.64, up by 12.23 points or by 0.38%. The major
gainers were D B Corp (6.36%), Dish TV India (2.57%), Bharti Airtel (0.78%),
Mphasis (0.27%) and Idea Cellular (0.06%).
On the other hand, the Metal index was at 10,753.08, down by 11.7 points
or by 0.11%. The major losers were Jindal Steel & Power (0.64%), Sesa Goa
(0.41%), Coal India (0.25%), Steel Authority Of India (0.16%) and Bhushan Steel
(0.14%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 1,431 advances against 799
declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Tata Consultancy Services topped the value chart on the BSE with a
turnover of Rs. 273.20 million. It was followed by Infosys (Rs. 232.27
million), United Spirits (Rs. 202.48 million) and State Bank
Of India (Rs. 161.08 million).
The volume chart was led by Mangalore Chemicals & Fertilizers with trades of over 2.54 million shares.
It was followed by Kingfisher Airlines (2.22 million), S K S Microfinance (1.70
million) and Cals Refineries (1.49 million).
