SENSEX UP 78 POINTS; TATA POWER, HINDALCO, NTPC RALLY

Indian equities continue to trade in the positive terrain amid mixed Asian markets. Auto, oil & gas and consumer durables stocks traded lower, while power gained.
Sensex was trading up 78.22 points or 0.46% at 16,984.80 with 25 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 27.75 points or 0.54% at 5,148.55 with 41 components gaining.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 69.18 points or 0.41% at 16,975.76, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 28.65 points or 0.56%, at 5,149.45.
Sensex Movers
H D F C Bank contributed rise of 15.89 points in the Sensex. It was followed by I C I C I Bank (15.53 points), Infosys (11.61 points), Tata Consultancy Services (10.66 points) and I T C (6.88 points).
However, Tata Motors contributed fall of 7.41 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (5.74 points), Hindustan Unilever (2.28 points), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.83 points) and Reliance Industries (0.94 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Tata Power Company (2.62%), Hindalco Industries (1.39%), NTPC (1.37%), I C I C I Bank (1.34%), H D F C Bank (1.31%), and Tata Consultancy Services (1.25%).
On the other hand, Tata Motors (1.34%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.81%), Mahindra & Mahindra (0.48%), Hindustan Unilever (0.39%), and Reliance Industries (0.06%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.57% and 0.62% respectively.
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Allcargo Logistics (2.22%), Amara Raja Batteries (1.25%), Amtek Auto (0.73%), Amtek India (0.43%) and Alstom Projects India (0.39%).
The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Trident (3.66%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (0.81%), Styrolution ABS (India) (0.66%), Aanjaneya Lifecare (0.31%) and Aarti Industries (0.07%).
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Allcargo Logistics (2.22%), Amara Raja Batteries (1.25%), Amtek Auto (0.73%), Amtek India (0.43%) and Alstom Projects India (0.39%).

Sectors in Limelight
The Power index was at 1,916.84, up by 24.30 points or by 1.28%. The major gainers were Reliance Infrastructure (2.25%), Crompton Greaves (1.64%), Adani Power (1.61%), A B B (1.2%) and Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.3%).
The IT index was at 5,672.39, up by 49.86 points or by 0.89%. The major gainers were Mphasis (2.12%), Hexaware Technologies (1.3%), Infosys (0.81%), H C L Technologies (0.49%) and Oracle Financial Services Software (0.09%).
The Bankex index was at 11,604.76, up by 102.33 points or by 0.89%. The major gainers were Bank Of Baroda(1.42%), H D F C Bank (1.31%), Canara Bank (0.99%), Bank Of India (0.54%) and Federal Bank (0.26%).
On the other hand, the Auto index was at 9,284.67, down by 34.86 points or by 0.37%. The major losers were Tata Motors (1.34%), Mahindra & Mahindra (0.48%), Bosch (0.28%) and Exide Industries (0.07%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 1,430 advances against 744 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
State Bank Of India topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 247.98 million. It was followed by Container Corporation Of India (Rs. 179.04 million), Housing Development and Infrastructure (Rs. 144.16 million) and Reliance Infrastructure (Rs. 112.14 million).
The volume chart was led by Kingfisher Airlines with trades of over 6.76 million shares. It was followed by Avance Technologies (3.14 million), Manappuram Finance (3.02 million) and Housing Development and Infrastructure (1.69 million).
