SENSEX TRADES DOWN 57 PTS; IT, TECK, OIL & GAS DRAG

Indian markets continued to drop for
the third day on Friday. Sensex was trading down 57.17 points or 0.35% at
16,161.36 with 21 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by
15.15 points or 0.31% at 4,909.10 with 39 components falling.
The 30-share benchmark
index, BSE Sensex opened flat with a decline of 1.05
points or 0.01% at 16,217.48, while the broad based NSE Nifty
started with a fall of 13.40 points or 0.27%, at
4,910.85.
Sensex Movers
Infosys contributed
fall of 15.85 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Tata Consultancy
Services (15.73 points), Reliance Industries (10.47 points), H D F C Bank (5.98
points) and Wipro (5.2 points).
However, I C I C I Bank contributed rise of 11.5 points in the Sensex.
It was followed by State Bank Of India (6.19 points), I
T C (3.73 points), Bharti Airtel (2.5 points) and Tata Steel (1.73 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were I C I C I Bank (1.04%),
State Bank Of India (0.99%), Tata Power Company (0.59%), Tata Steel (0.53%),
Bharti Airtel (0.53%), and Maruti Suzuki India (0.32%).
On the other hand,
Tata Consultancy Services (1.85%), Wipro (1.82%), Bajaj Auto (1.61%), NTPC
(1.16%), Infosys Technologies (1.14%), and Hero Honda Motors (0.93%) were the
major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap
Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining
0.06% and 0.19% respectively.
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Amtek India (1.77%), Anant Raj Industries (1.41%), Amtek Auto (1%), Andhra Bank (0.51%) and CORE Education and Technologies (0.38%).
The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.36%), Adhunik Metaliks (1.32%), Reliance MediaWorks (0.7%), Aanjaneya Lifecare (0.32%) and Action Construction Equipment (0.18%).
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Amtek India (1.77%), Anant Raj Industries (1.41%), Amtek Auto (1%), Andhra Bank (0.51%) and CORE Education and Technologies (0.38%).
The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.36%), Adhunik Metaliks (1.32%), Reliance MediaWorks (0.7%), Aanjaneya Lifecare (0.32%) and Action Construction Equipment (0.18%).
Sectors in Limelight
The IT index was at
5,589.53, down by 76.55 points or by 1.35%. The major losers were Hexaware
Technologies (2.14%), Infosys (1.14%), H C L Technologies (1%), Mphasis (0.85%)
and Oracle Financial Services Software (0.14%).
The TECk index was at
3,243.36, down by 33.99 points or by 1.04%. The major losers were H C L
Technologies (1%), Mphasis (0.85%), Dish TV India (0.61%), Idea Cellular
(0.59%) and Oracle Financial Services Software (0.14%).
The Oil & Gas
index was at 7,536.32, down by 51.52 points or by 0.68%. The major losers were
Cairn India (3.51%), Reliance Industries (0.71%), Oil & Natural Gas
Corporation (0.71%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation (0.27%) and G A I L (India)
(0.23%).
On the other hand, the
Consumer Durables index was at 6,220.95, up by 19.42 points or by 0.31%. The
major gainers were Blue Star (1.13%), Titan Industries (0.56%), T T K Prestige
(0.47%), Rajesh Exports (0.29%) and Gitanjali Gems (0.08%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was
negative with 860 advances against 804 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Tata Motors topped the
value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 206.60 million. It was followed
by JM Financial (Rs. 202.54 million), Multi Commodity Exchange
of India (Rs. 201.10 million) and State Bank Of India (Rs. 181.91 million).
The volume chart was
led by JM Financial with trades of over 16.86 million shares. It was followed
by Cals Refineries (9.08 million), Kingfisher Airlines (2.38 million) and
Suzlon Energy (1.90 million).
