SENSEX OFF FROM DAY`S LOW; ONGC, L&T GAIN

Indian equities pared most of its losses in the post noon
trades thanks to buying interest seen in index pivotals. Consumer durables,
FMCG and realty stocks led the decline.
Sensex was trading
down 71.19 points or 0.45% at 15,893.97 with 23 components falling. Meanwhile,
the Nifty was trading lower by 19.80 points or 0.41% at 4,821.80 with 36
components falling.
The 30-share benchmark
index, BSE Sensex opened with a decline of 156.28 points or 0.98% at 15,808.88,
while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a fall of 44.30 points or 0.91%,
at 4,797.30.
Sensex Movers
I T C contributed fall
of 24.63 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Bharti Airtel (15.42 points),
Tata Consultancy Services (12.09 points), Hindustan Unilever (10.8 points) and
Housing Development Finance Corporation (8.43 points).
However, Oil & Natural
Gas Corporation contributed rise of 16.74 points in the Sensex. It was followed
by Reliance Industries (14.15 points), Larsen & Toubro (8.4 points), Tata
Motors (2.31 points) and Jaiprakash Associates (2.09 points).
Biggest gainers in the
30-share index were Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (2.68%), Larsen &
Toubro (1.12%), Reliance Industries (0.97%), Hero Honda Motors (0.40%), Tata
Motors (0.40%), and Tata Steel (0.21%).
On the other hand, G A
I L (India) (3.34%), Bharti Airtel (3.32%), D L F (3.07%), Jindal Steel &
Power (2.67%), Tata Power Company (2.33%), and Sterlite Industries (India)
(2.03%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap
Space
The BSE Mid and small
caps underperformed their larger counterparts declining -0.70% and -0.46% respectively.
The major losers in the BSE Midcap were Aban Offshore (6.33%), Alstom Projects India (2.06%), Allcargo Logistics (1.65%), A I A Engineering (1.5%) and CORE Education and Technologies (0.72%).
The major losers in the BSE Smallcap were A B G Infralogistics (2.45%), Styrolution ABS (India) (1.09%), Aarti Industries (0.82%), Aanjaneya Lifecare (0.71%) and Trident (0.21%).
The major losers in the BSE Midcap were Aban Offshore (6.33%), Alstom Projects India (2.06%), Allcargo Logistics (1.65%), A I A Engineering (1.5%) and CORE Education and Technologies (0.72%).
The major losers in the BSE Smallcap were A B G Infralogistics (2.45%), Styrolution ABS (India) (1.09%), Aarti Industries (0.82%), Aanjaneya Lifecare (0.71%) and Trident (0.21%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Consumer Durables
index was at 5,955.45, down by 200.31 points or by 3.25%. The major losers were
Bajaj Electricals (4.28%), Blue Star (1.56%), Rajesh Exports (0.91%), Whirlpool
Of India (0.49%) and Gitanjali Gems (0.03%).
The FMCG index was at
4,515.44, down by 75.72 points or by 1.65%. The major losers were
Colgate-Palmolive (India) (3.12%), Hindustan Unilever (1.98%), I T C (1.6%),
Godrej Consumer Products (1.36%) and Dabur India (0.48%).
The Realty index was
at 1,535.69, down by 17.01 points or by 1.1%. The major losers were D L F
(3.07%), Prestige Estates Projects (1.7%), Phoenix Mills (1.64%), Anant Raj
Industries (0.76%) and Housing Development and Infrastructure (0.31%).
On the other hand, the
Oil & Gas index was at 7,490.19, up by 62.58 points or by 0.84%. The major
gainers were Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (4.66%), Bharat Petroleum
Corporation (3.01%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (2.68%), Indian Oil
Corporation (1.62%) and Oil India (1.3%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was
negative with 949 advances against 1,627 declines.
Value and Volume
Toppers
State Bank Of India
topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 844.83 million. It was
followed by Indraprastha Gas (Rs. 691.99 million), Tata Motors (Rs. 567.61
million) and Larsen & Toubro (Rs. 277.21 million).
The volume chart was
led by Suzlon Energy with trades of over 3.94 million shares. It was followed
by Indraprastha Gas (2.72 million), Tata Motors (2.52 million) and Lanco
Infratech (2.35 million).
