SENSEX DOWN 46 POINTS; TATA MOTORS PLUNGES 11%

Indian equities continue to trade on a flat note with
negative bias amid volatility. Auto, consumer durables and banking
stocks led the decline.
Sensex was trading down 46.17 points or 0.28% at 16,392.41
with 16 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 19.85
points or 0.40% at 4,970.25 with 35 components falling.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex
opened with a decline of 46.68 points or 0.28% at 16,391.90, while the broad
based NSE Nifty started with a fall of 25.85 points or
0.52%, at 4,964.25.
Sensex Movers
Tata Motors contributed fall of 65.49 points in the Sensex.
It was followed by I C I C I Bank (14.32 points), State Bank Of India (7.53 points), Larsen & Toubro (6.64
points) and Bharat Heavy Electricals (5.45 points).
However, Infosys contributed rise of 18.98 points in the
Sensex. It was followed by I T C (16.1 points), Tata Consultancy
Services (9.81 points), Bharti Airtel (7.02 points) and Maruti Suzuki
India (3.8 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Maruti Suzuki
India (1.87%), Tata Power Company (1.72%), Bharti Airtel (1.47%), Infosys
Technologies (1.35%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (1.21%), and Tata
Consultancy Services (1.14%).
On the other hand, Tata Motors (11.04%), Bharat Heavy
Electricals (2.62%), D L F (1.89%), Sterlite Industries (India) (1.65%), Tata
Steel (1.29%), and I C I C I Bank (1.28%) were the biggest
losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps
underperformed their larger counterparts declining
-0.67% and -0.61% respectively.
The major losers in the BSE Midcap were Allcargo Logistics (1.79%), Aban Offshore (1.61%), Alstom Projects India (1.46%), Amara Raja Batteries (0.88%) and A B G Shipyard (0.37%).
The major losers in the BSE Smallcap were Styrolution ABS (India) (2.95%), Trident (0.81%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (0.77%), Aarti Industries (0.15%) and Aanjaneya Lifecare (0.12%).
The major losers in the BSE Midcap were Allcargo Logistics (1.79%), Aban Offshore (1.61%), Alstom Projects India (1.46%), Amara Raja Batteries (0.88%) and A B G Shipyard (0.37%).
The major losers in the BSE Smallcap were Styrolution ABS (India) (2.95%), Trident (0.81%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (0.77%), Aarti Industries (0.15%) and Aanjaneya Lifecare (0.12%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Auto index was at 9,091.18, down by 333.28 points or by
3.54%. The major losers were Apollo Tyres (1.85%), Exide Industries (1.82%),
Ashok Leyland (1.4%), Hero Motocorp (0.55%) and Bajaj Auto (0.34%).
The Consumer Durables index was at 6,315.86, down by 80.43
points or by 1.26%. The major losers were Bajaj Electricals (4.67%), Titan
Industries (1.81%), T T K Prestige (1.76%), Whirlpool Of India (1.46%) and
Gitanjali Gems (0.05%).
The Bankex index was at 11,039.60, down by 138.44 points or
by 1.24%. The major losers were Canara Bank(3.09%), Bank Of India (2.98%), Bank Of Baroda (0.74%), Federal Bank (0.71%) and H D F C Bank
(0.41%).
On the other hand, the IT index was at 5,686.53, up by
61.14 points or by 1.09%. The major gainers were Tech Mahindra (4.34%), Infosys
(1.35%), H C L Technologies (0.64%), Mphasis (0.61%) and CORE Education and
Technologies (0.43%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 1,069 advances against
1,577 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Tata Motors topped the value chart on the BSE with a
turnover of Rs 1,245.47 million. It was followed by Tata Motors (Rs.
1,245.47 million), State Bank Of India (Rs. 773.32 million) and Wockhardt (Rs.
407.23 million).
The volume chart was led by Tata Motors with trades of over
5.07 million shares. It was followed by Lanco Infratech (4.16 million), Suzlon
Energy (3.94 million) and Spicejet (3.23 million).
