SENSEX FLAT WITH NEGATIVE BIAS; ONGC, TATA MOTORS

Indian
markets trading flat with negative bias in early trade on
Friday. Sensex was trading down 33.46
points or 0.21% at 16,188.84 with 17 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty
was trading lower by 9.55 points or 0.19% at 4,911.85 with 29 components
falling.
The 30-share benchmark
index, BSE Sensex opened flat with a decline of 9.06 points or 0.06% at
16,213.24, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a fall of 15.45 points
or 0.31%, at 4,905.95.
Sensex Movers
Housing Development
Finance Corporation contributed fall of 10.12 points in the Sensex. It was
followed by Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (9.16 points), Infosys (8.75
points), Reliance Industries (7.34 points) and I C I C I Bank (6.9 points).
However, Bharti Airtel
contributed rise of 5 points in the Sensex. It was followed by H D F C Bank
(4.95 points), Tata Steel (4.45 points), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (3.21
points) and Hero Motocorp (2.43 points).
Biggest gainers in the
30-share index were Tata Steel (1.37%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (1.11%),
Hero Honda Motors (1.09%), Bharti Airtel (1.06%), Bharat Heavy Electricals
(1.01%), and Sterlite Industries (India) (0.84%).
On the other hand, Oil
& Natural Gas Corporation (1.44%), Tata Motors (0.99%), Housing Development
Finance Corporation (0.91%), Mahindra & Mahindra (0.71%), Infosys
Technologies (0.63%), and I C I C I Bank (0.62%) were the major losers in the
Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap
Space
The BSE Mid and small
caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.39% and 0.40%
respectively.
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Amara Raja Batteries (3.06%), Amtek India (2.32%), Aban Offshore (1.62%), Alstom Projects India (1.02%) and Allcargo Logistics (0.63%).
The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Alembic (3.23%), Trident (2.39%), Styrolution ABS (India) (1.38%), Reliance MediaWorks (0.82%) and Hubtown (0.33%).

index was at 7,531.50, down by 51.25 points or by 0.68%. The major losers were
Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.44%), Indian Oil Corporation (1.44%),
Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (1.41%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation (0.81%)
and Oil India (0.54%).
The IT index was at
5,501.70, down by 24.28 points or by 0.44%. The major losers were Infosys
(0.63%), CORE Education and Technologies (0.49%), Tata Consultancy Services
(0.4%), H C L Technologies (0.36%) and Mphasis (0.2%).
On the other hand, the
IPO index was at 1,419.43, up by 8.16 points or by 0.58%. The major gainers
were Aster Silicates (3.93%), Career Point (1.61%), Bedmutha Industries
(0.63%), BS TransComm (0.54%) and Claris Lifesciences (0.06%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was
negative with 906 advances against 717 declines.
Value and Volume
Toppers
State Bank Of India
topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 224.95 million. It was
followed by Wockhardt (Rs. 127.88 million), Tata Steel (Rs. 93.83 million) and
Axis Bank (Rs. 79.62 million).
The volume chart was
led by D C W with trades of over 1.84 million shares. It was followed by Avance
Technologies (1.44 million), Cals Refineries (1.23 million) and Voltas (0.75
million).
