SENSEX TRADES UP 53 POINTS; CONSUMER DURABLES JUMP

Indian markets pared some of the early gain on Wednesday. Sensex was trading up 53.47 points or 0.31% at 17,372.28 with 16 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 12.65 points or 0.24% at 5,260.80 with 27 components gaining.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 52.12 points or 0.30% at 17,370.93, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 6.15 points or 0.12%, at 5,254.30.
Sensex Movers
H D F C Bank contributed rise of 16.31 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Hindustan Unilever (15.23 points), Tata Consultancy Services (14.8 points), I C I C I Bank (11.99 points) and Bharti Airtel (10.1 points).
However, Tata Motors contributed fall of 18.03 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (10.1 points), Maruti Suzuki India (4.8 points), Housing Development Finance Corporation (3.31 points) and NTPC (2.09 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Hindustan Unilever (2.81%), Bharti Airtel (2.05%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.74%), D L F (1.66%), Jindal Steel & Power (1.45%), and H D F C Bank (1.33%).
On the other hand, Tata Motors (2.73%), Coal India (2.03%), Maruti Suzuki India (1.97%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.48%), G A I L (India) (1.42%), and Bajaj Auto (1.00%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.36% and 0.52% respectively.
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Bajaj Finance (3.48%), Allcargo Logistics (2.49%), Andhra Bank (1.59%), Dish TV India (0.42%) and Arvind (0.06%).
The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Trident (2.82%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.56%), Reliance MediaWorks (0.81%), INEOS ABS (India) (0.48%) and Aarti Industries (0.28%).
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Bajaj Finance (3.48%), Allcargo Logistics (2.49%), Andhra Bank (1.59%), Dish TV India (0.42%) and Arvind (0.06%).
The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Trident (2.82%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.56%), Reliance MediaWorks (0.81%), INEOS ABS (India) (0.48%) and Aarti Industries (0.28%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Consumer Durables index was at 6,736.77, up by 144.85 points or by 2.20%. The major gainers were Titan Industries (3.52%), T T K Prestige (2.48%), Rajesh Exports (1.43%), Gitanjali Gems (0.08%) and C.Mahendra Exports (0.08%).
The TECk index was at 3,361.87, up by 35.78 points or by 1.08%. The major gainers were Mphasis (2.79%), Idea Cellular (2.55%), Bharti Airtel (2.05%), Reliance MediaWorks (0.81%) and Dish TV India (0.42%).
The FMCG index was at 4,820.78, up by 48.71 points or by 1.02%. The major gainers were Hindustan Unilever (2.81%), Godrej Consumer Products (1.99%), Colgate-Palmolive (India) (0.69%), I T C (0.53%) and Jubilant FoodWorks (0.51%).
On the other hand, the Auto index was at 10,549.95, down by 95.57 points or by 0.9%. The major losers were Ashok Leyland (2.79%), Exide Industries (2.32%), Maruti Suzuki India (1.97%), Apollo Tyres (1.27%) and Bajaj Auto (1%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 1,400 advances against 1,251 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Pantaloon Retail (India) topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 352.27 million. It was followed by State Bank Of India (Rs. 348.92 million), Bharti Airtel (Rs. 251.94 million) and Tata Consultancy Services (Rs. 237.57 million).
The volume chart was led by Sybly Industries with trades of over 6.30 million shares. It was followed by Sonata Software (5.41 million), Lanco Infratech (3.53 million) and S Q L Star International (2.42 million).
