SENSEX TRADES DOWN 85 POINTS; AUTO, BANKEX FALL

Indian equities continued to fall for the second day on Thursday. Sensex was trading down 84.88 points or 0.49% at 17,217.03 with 24 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 29.60 points or 0.56% at 5,209.55 with 41 components falling.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a decline of 30.14 points or 0.17% at 17,271.77, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a fall of 27.95 points or 0.53%, at 5,211.20.
Sensex Movers
Hero Motocorp contributed fall of 13.82 points in the Sensex. It was followed by I C I C I Bank (13.16 points), Housing Development Finance Corporation (8.08 points), Larsen & Toubro (7.81 points) and Bharti Airtel (7.46 points).
However, Hindustan Unilever contributed rise of 7.08 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Infosys (4.5 points), Wipro (2.28 points), Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.78 points) and Sterlite Industries (India) (1.46 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Cipla (1.61%), Hindustan Unilever (1.32%), Wipro (0.77%), Sterlite Industries (India) (0.76%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.76%), and Infosys Technologies (0.32%).
On the other hand, Hero Honda Motors (5.31%), Bajaj Auto (3.14%), Maruti Suzuki India (2.02%), Bharti Airtel (1.53%), Coal India (1.52%), and Tata Steel (1.45%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts declining-0.18% and -0.22% respectively.
The major losers in the BSE Midcap were Alstom Projects India (1.35%), Andhra Bank (0.55%), Alok Industries (0.26%), Amtek India (0.24%) and Aban Offshore (0.21%).
The major losers in the BSE Smallcap were A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.64%), Trident (1.45%), Hubtown (0.89%), Alembic (0.88%) and INEOS ABS (India) (0.42%).
The major losers in the BSE Midcap were Alstom Projects India (1.35%), Andhra Bank (0.55%), Alok Industries (0.26%), Amtek India (0.24%) and Aban Offshore (0.21%).
The major losers in the BSE Smallcap were A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.64%), Trident (1.45%), Hubtown (0.89%), Alembic (0.88%) and INEOS ABS (India) (0.42%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Auto index was at 10,282.98, down by 179.92 points or by 1.72%. The major losers were Hero Motocorp (5.31%), Bajaj Auto (3.14%), Exide Industries (1.55%), Apollo Tyres (0.46%) and Cummins India (0.12%).
The Bankex index was at 11,776.59, down by 83.7 points or by 0.71%. The major losers were Bank Of India(0.79%), Bank Of Baroda (0.62%), Canara Bank (0.4%), Federal Bank (0.27%) and H D F C Bank (0.16%).
The PSU index was at 7,158.20, down by 50.38 points or by 0.7%. The major losers were Bank Of Maharashtra(1.12%), Balmer Lawrie & Company (1.06%), Bank Of India (0.79%), Bank Of Baroda (0.62%) and Andhra Bank (0.55%).
On the other hand, the Consumer Durables index was at 6,782.01, up by 31.26 points or by 0.46%. The major gainers were Titan Industries (1.09%), Whirlpool Of India (0.72%), Blue Star (0.7%) and T T K Prestige (0.06%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 760 advances against 996 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Hero Motocorp topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 132.84 million. It was followed by Pipavav Defence and Offshore Engineering Company (Rs. 132.53 million), State Bank Of India (Rs. 117.26 million) and Lovable Lingerie (Rs. 114.90 million).
The volume chart was led by Cals Refineries with trades of over 13.45 million shares. It was followed by Pipavav Defence and Offshore Engineering Company (1.59 million), Lanco Infratech (1.09 million) and Shree Renuka Sugars (0.99 million).
