NSE SENSEX ENDS FLAT
DATE: 29/05/2012
Indian benchmark
indices, the Sensex and the Nifty, ended the session flat on Tuesday on
value-buying by funds and retail investors in selective stocks.
Besides value buying by funds and
retail investors at selective stocks, having strong fundamentals, covering-up
of short positions ahead of Thursday’s monthly expiry in the derivatives
segment also influenced the trading sentiment.
At 3.30 p.m., the 30-share BSE index
Sensex was up 10.48 points or 0.06 per cent at 16,427.32 and the 50-share NSE
index Nifty was down 1.5 points or 0.03 per cent at 4,984.15.
Volume toppers were SBI, Tata
Motors, Tata Steel, L&T and RIL. Among 30-share Sensex, Coal India, Maruti,
Wipro, GAIL and TCS were the top performers. ITC, Sterlite, Tata Motors, DLF
and Sun Pharma were the major laggards.
IT and TECk stocks were the star
performers with each up by over 0.7 per cent.
Mixed trading was witnessed in the
Asian markets after opinion polls in Greece showed a lead for a party favouring
the country’s economic bailout in upcoming elections and amid expectations for
a policy stimulus in China to support growth.
European stocks were up before
reports from America that may show consumer confidence is growing and the
housing market is stabilising.
