SENSEX TRADES UP 131 POINTS; BHEL SURGES OVER 3%

Indian equities continue to trade on Monday tracking positive Asian cues. Intense buying is being
witnessed in banking, power and auto stocks.
Sensex was trading up
130.69 points or 0.81% at 16,348.51 with 22 components gaining. Meanwhile, the
Nifty was trading higher by 43.15 points or 0.88% at 4,963.55 with 39
components gaining.
``4,800 - 4,830 range continues to remain a key support
area. If Nifty manages to respect this range and clear the resistance
of 4,960 then we expect a sharp upside till 5,100. In an alternate scenario a
breach of 4,800 would induce a sell off till 4685 and lower,``
The 30-share benchmark
index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 72.00 points or
0.44% at 16,289.82, while the broad based NSE Nifty
started with a rise of 11.30 points or 0.23%, at 4,931.70.
Sensex Movers
I C I C I Bank
contributed rise of 21.41 points in the Sensex. It was followed by State Bank Of India (17.85 points), Reliance Industries
(17.29 points), I T C (15.33 points) and Tata Motors (10.33 points).
However, Hindustan
Unilever contributed fall of 6.46 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Oil
& Natural Gas Corporation (6.37 points), Maruti Suzuki
India (2.01 points), Tata Consultancy Services (1.05
points) and D L F (0.78 points).
Major gainers in the
30-share index were Bharat Heavy Electricals (3.10%), State Bank Of India
(2.84%), Tata Power Company (2.41%), Mahindra & Mahindra (2.08%), I C I C I
Bank (1.91%), and Tata Motors (1.74%).
On the other hand, G A
I L (India) (2.51%), Hindustan Unilever (1.15%), Oil & Natural Gas
Corporation (0.99%), Maruti Suzuki India (0.99%), D L F (0.82%), and Tata
Consultancy Services (0.12%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap
Space
The BSE Midcap and
Smallcap index rose 0.85% and 0.86% respectively.
Sectors in Limelight
The Bankex index was
at 11,064.63, up by 165.42 points or by 1.52%. The major gainers were Bank Of India(1.81%), Bank Of Baroda (1.18%), Federal Bank
(1.01%), H D F C Bank (0.8%) and Canara Bank (0.78%).
The Power index was at
1,807.23, up by 22.53 points or by 1.26%. The major gainers were Bharat Heavy
Electricals (3.1%), Reliance Infrastructure (2.71%), A B B (1.08%), Adani Power
(0.39%) and G M R Infrastructure (0.24%).
The Capital Goods
index was at 8,966.77, up by 103.93 points or by 1.17%. The major gainers were
A I A Engineering (2.03%), BEML (1.39%), A B B (1.08%), Bharat Electronics
(0.7%) and Alstom Projects India (0.51%).
The Auto index was at
9,346.07, up by 107.18 points or by 1.16%. The major gainers were Exide
Industries (1.69%), Ashok Leyland (1.45%), Apollo Tyres (1.03%), Bharat Forge
(0.86%) and Bajaj Auto (0.45%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was
negative with 1,525 advances against 882 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
State Bank Of India
topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 607.63 million. It was
followed by Shalimar Paints (Rs. 174.89 million), Larsen & Toubro (Rs.
157.72 million) and Wockhardt (Rs. 157.10 million).
The volume chart was
led by Lanco Infratech with trades of over 2.04 million shares. It was followed
by Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision (1.89 million), Suzlon Energy (1.80 million)
and Reliance Communications (1.57 million).
