MINE PRODUCTION IN US WAS 4% HIGHER IN FEBRUARY 2012

Domestic Mine
Production of Lead was 4% higher in February 2012, USGS report mentioned. The
total average daily mine production was 961 tonnes, up 4% from Jan 2012 and 9%
higher than February 2011. Domestic mine production of lead was 27900 tonnes in
February 2012. Secondary mine production of lead was 5% higher than February
2011.
US imports of Lead for
consumption increased by 25% in first two months of the year compared to same
period last year. However, the consumption decreased by 33% in February than
the previous month. US imported 87% of Lead from Canada and Mexico during the
first two months of 2012.
Global LME lead stocks
by February end were 369950 tonnes, higher than the end of January 2012. The
stockpiles were also higher than 26% from corresponding period previous year
2011, USGS mentioned.
North American
producer shipment of replacement lead-acid battery for automobiles declined by
8% to 7.63 million units in February 2012 from 8.30 million units in January
2012. Shipments of replacement lead-acid batteries were 10% less than those of
February 2011, partially owing to the mild winter in the Northeast United
States.
