MARKET TRADES FLAT; MARUTI, M&M DROP

Indian
markets continue to trade in a lackluster manner amid volatility.
Consumer durables, oil & gas and auto stocks traded marginally lower,
while metals gained the most.
Sensex was trading up
9.60 points or 0.06% at 16,231.90 with 20 components gaining. Meanwhile, the
Nifty was trading higher by 1.25 points or 0.03% at 4,922.65 with 34 components
gaining.
The 30-share benchmark
index, BSE Sensex opened flat with a decline of 9.06 points or 0.06% at
16,213.24, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a fall of 15.45 points
or 0.31%, at 4,905.95.
Sensex Movers
State Bank Of India
contributed rise of 8.39 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Tata Steel
(7.86 points), Larsen & Toubro (6.56 points), Sterlite Industries (India)
(3.56 points) and Bharti Airtel (3.34 points).
However, Housing
Development Finance Corporation contributed fall of 14.28 points in the Sensex.
It was followed by Reliance Industries (9.7 points), Mahindra & Mahindra
(5.16 points), Hindustan Unilever (4.72 points) and Maruti Suzuki India (4.6
points).
Major gainers in the
30-share index were G A I L (India) (2.64%), Tata Steel (2.41%), Sterlite
Industries (India) (1.94%), State Bank Of India (1.34%), Hindalco Industries
(1.27%), and D L F (1.19%).
On the other hand,
Maruti Suzuki India (2.29%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.45%), Jindal Steel
& Power (1.45%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.28%), Hindustan
Unilever (0.85%), and Reliance Industries (0.65%) were the major losers in the
Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap
Space
The BSE Mid and small
caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.61% and 0.62%
respectively.
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Alok Industries (1.58%), Aban Offshore (1.54%), Allcargo Logistics (1.48%), Alstom Projects India (0.45%) and A I A Engineering (0.11%).
The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Aarti Industries (3.9%), Trident (1.44%), Aanjaneya Lifecare (0.89%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (0.62%) and Action Construction Equipment (0.35%).
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Alok Industries (1.58%), Aban Offshore (1.54%), Allcargo Logistics (1.48%), Alstom Projects India (0.45%) and A I A Engineering (0.11%).

The Metal index was at
10,111.58, up by 115.27 points or by 1.15%. The major gainers were JSW Steel
(2.2%), NMDC (1.62%), Hindalco Industries (1.27%), Coal India (0.52%) and
Hindustan Zinc (0.34%).
The IPO index was at
1,422.66, up by 11.39 points or by 0.81%. The major gainers were Aster
Silicates (1.12%), Bedmutha Industries (0.63%), Bajaj Corp (0.38%), Career
Point (0.35%) and Claris Lifesciences (0.06%).
The Capital Goods
index was at 8,843.38, up by 58.92 points or by 0.67%. The major gainers were
Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.58%), Lakshmi Machine Works (0.46%), Alstom
Projects India (0.45%), A B B (0.3%) and A I A Engineering (0.11%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was
negative with 1,466 advances against 1,169 declines.
Value and Volume
Toppers
State Bank Of India
topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 876.07 million. It was
followed by Jubilant FoodWorks (Rs. 312.31 million), Wockhardt (Rs. 280.54
million) and Tata Steel (Rs. 270.31 million).
The volume chart was
led by Alok Industries with trades of over 10.73 million shares. It was
followed by D C W (4.12 million), Cals Refineries (3.98 million) and Avance
Technologies (3.29 million).
