IT, TECK STOCKS LIFT SENSEX 128 POINTS

Indian benchmark indices, the Sensex and the Nifty, gained over 0.5 per cent at the end of the session today amid a firm trend in the European markets.
At 3.30 p.m., the 30-share BSE index Sensex was up 128.44 points or 0.75 per cent at 17,225.12 and the 50-share NSE index Nifty was up 26.55 points or 0.51 per cent at 5,227.15.
Volume toppers were TCS, SBI, Infosys, Bharti Airtel and L&T. Among the 30-share Sensex, TCS, Wipro, Hero Motocorp, Tata Power and Infosys were the top performers. Bharti Airtel, GAIL, L&T, DLF and Bajaj Auto were the major laggards.
IT and TECK stocks were the star performers with IT up by 5.05 per cent and TECk up by 3.46 per cent.
Asian stocks fell for the fourth day straight as the situation in Europe continues to remain a concern.
European stocks recovered from a three-month low before reports on US consumer confidence and home sales.
