US ZINC MINE PRODUCTION DECLINES IN 2011 BUT ADVANCED GLOBALLY

United States total Zinc mine production was lower in 2011 compared to 2010 on account of planned maintenance in the third quarter, as per data released by United States Geological Survey (USGS). World total mine production of zinc was 12400000 tonnes in 2011 as against 12000000 tonnes in 2010.
However, secondary zinc mine production increased due to increased smelter production in Pennsylvania during first half of the year USGS added. According to the data, the total mine production of Zinc in 2011 was 760000 tonnes, compared to 748000 tonnes in the year 2010.
Primary production slightly decreased in 2011, as production at a zinc refinery in Tennessee underwent planned maintenance in the third quarter. Total US Zinc exports of ores and concentrates was 630000 tonnes in 2011 compared to 752000 tonnes in 2010. Imports of ore and concentrates were 30000 tonnes in 2011 as against 32000 tonnes in 2010.
