Sensex trades flat amid volatility; Sterlite, Hindalco fall
DATE: 03.02.2012 Indian markets are trading on a flat note amid volatility. Metals, capital goods and oil & gas stocks traded lower, while healthcare and realty gained.
At 10.53 a.m., the Sensex was trading down 13.31 points or 0.08% at 17,418.54 with 12 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 11.55 points or 0.22% at 5,281.45 with 31 components gaining.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened flat with a rise of 12.40 points or 0.07% at 17,444.25, while the broad based NSE Nifty began flat with a gain of 2.20 points or 0.04%, at 5,272.10.
Sensex Movers
Reliance Industries contributed fall of 20.07 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Larsen & Toubro (14.04 points), Tata Steel (10.27 points), I C I C I Bank (9.55 points) and State Bank Of India (8.7 points).
However, Bharti Airtel contributed rise of 14.18 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Infosys (9.3 points), Hindustan Unilever (8.63 points), Housing Development Finance Corporation (7.39 points) and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (6.99 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (2.60%), Bharti Airtel (2.33%), Cipla (1.93%), Hindustan Unilever (1.68%), Coal India (1.48%), and Bajaj Auto (1.47%).
On the other hand, Sterlite Industries (India) (2.86%), Hindalco Industries (2.73%), Tata Steel (2.73%), Jindal Steel & Power (1.79%), Larsen & Toubro (1.51%), and Tata Motors (1.46%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
