Reliance Industries contributed rise of 17.4 points in the Sensex. It was followed by I C I C I Bank (12.41 points), Tata Consultancy Services (10.39 points), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (6.49 points) and Tata Motors (4.83 points).
However, Hero Motocorp contributed fall of 9.59 points in the Sensex. It was followed by H D F C Bank (9.21 points), I T C (4.84 points), Hindalco Industries (4.8 points) and Housing Development Finance Corporation (4.58 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Coal India (2.09%), Sterlite Industries (India) (1.40%), Tata Motors (1.32%), I C I C I Bank (1.31%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.27%), and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.25%)
On the other hand, Bajaj Auto (4.82%), Hero Honda Motors (4.11%), D L F (2.76%), Hindalco Industries (2.33%), NTPC (1.31%), and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (1.27%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Midcao and Smallcap index rose 0.06% and 0.46% respectively.
Sectors in Limelight
The Oil & Gas index was at 7,604.03, up by 74.76 points or by 0.99%. The major gainers were G A I L (India) (1.28%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.25%), Reliance Industries (1.1%) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (0.79%).
The Consumer Durables index was at 5,335.39, up by 51.06 points or by 0.97%. The major gainers were C.Mahendra Exports (2.62%), Gitanjali Gems (2.07%), Titan Industries (1.43%), Rajesh Exports (1.24%) and Bajaj Electricals (0.2%).
The IPO index was at 1,309.06, up by 8.58 points or by 0.66%. The major gainers were Aster Silicates (6.88%), Career Point (1.62%), Bajaj Corp (1.27%), Claris Lifesciences (1.18%) and BS TransComm (0.19%).
On the other hand, the Auto index was at 8,047.49, down by 96.16 points or by 1.18%. The major losers were Bajaj Auto (4.82%), Hero Motocorp (4.11%), Cummins India (1.13%), Mahindra & Mahindra (0.97%) and Bharat Forge (0.95%).
Market breadth was positive with 1,197 advances against 901 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
State Bank Of India topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 221.47 million. It was followed by Reliance Industries (Rs. 163.04 million), Tata Steel (Rs. 105.09 million) and I F C I (Rs. 100.07 million).
The volume chart was led by I F C I with trades of over 4.93 million shares. It was followed by Cals Refineries (1.70 million), Dazzel Confindive (1.26 million) and Suzlon Energy (0.97 million).
