Goldennifty said: Indian equities continued to rise for the fifth day on Wednesday. Sensex was trading up 36.92 points or 0.22% at 17,032.69 with 16 components gaining. Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty was trading higher by 8.65 points or 0.17% at 5,136.00 with 27 components gaining.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 73.08 points or 0.43% at 17,068.85, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 24.15 points or 0.47%, at 5,151.50.
Housing Development Finance Corporation contributed rise of 9.05 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Tata Steel (7.69 points), Infosys (7.04 points), Tata Motors (6.88 points) and I T C (5.92 points).
However, I C I C I Bank contributed fall of 19.74 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Larsen & Toubro (7.38 points), Hero Motocorp (2.78 points), Hindustan Unilever (2.64 points) and Wipro (1.75 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Sterlite Industries (India) (2.47%), Tata Steel (2.14%), Tata Motors (1.46%), Coal India (1.14%), Bharti Airtel (0.98%), and Hindalco Industries (0.94%).
On the other hand, I C I C I Bank (1.65%), Jindal Steel & Power (1.17%), Hero MotoCorp (1.16%), Larsen & Toubro (0.86%), Tata Power Company (0.65%), and Wipro (0.56%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
