SENSEX OFF DAY`S HIGH; REALTY, METAL, BANKEX RISE

Indian
markets pared most
of its initial gains due to profit booking seen in index pivotals. Realty, banking and metal stocks
gained, while consumer durables declined.
Sensex was trading up
67.63 points or 0.41% at 16,521.93 with 19 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading
higher by 15.60 points or 0.31% at 5,012.70 with 24 components gaining.
The 30-share benchmark
index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 123.71 points
or 0.75% at 16,578.01, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of
38.25 points or 0.77%, at 5,035.35.
Sensex Movers
Infosys contributed rise of 25.83 points in the Sensex. It was
followed by Reliance Industries (18.82 points), H D F C Bank (17.86 points), I
C I C I Bank (14.33 points) and Hindustan Unilever (3.92 points).
However, Tata Consultancy Services contributed fall of 12.92 points in
the Sensex. It was followed by I T C (5.39 points), Larsen & Toubro (3.77
points), Wipro (3.65 points) and Mahindra & Mahindra (3.61 points).
Major gainers in the
30-share index were Sterlite Industries (India) (2.08%), Infosys Technologies
(1.80%), Hero Motocorp (1.69%), D L F (1.67%), H D F C Bank (1.57%), and
Maruti Suzuki India (1.42%).
On the
other hand, Tata Consultancy Services (1.46%), Wipro (1.20%), Mahindra
& Mahindra (0.98%), Larsen & Toubro (0.49%), Bharti Airtel (0.49%), and
Hindalco Industries (0.41%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap
Space
The BSE Midcap and
Smallcap index rose 0.22% and 0.29% respectively.
Sectors in Limelight
The Realty index was
at 1,609.78, up by 16.47 points or by 1.03%. The major gainers were D L F
(1.67%), Housing Development and Infrastructure (0.83%), D B Realty (0.73%),
Sunteck Realty (0.64%) and Oberoi Realty (0.04%).
The Metal index was at
10,223.51, up by 87.90 points or by 0.87%. The major gainers were Sesa Goa
(1.99%), Jindal Steel & Power (1.24%), Hindustan Zinc (1.01%), Coal India
(0.96%) and NMDC (0.42%).
The Bankex index was
at 11,310.86, up by 92.08 points or by 0.82%. The major gainers were H D F C
Bank (1.57%), I C I C I Bank (1.29%), Union Bank Of India
(0.92%), Indusind Bank (0.4%) and State Bank Of India (0.03%).
On the other hand, the
Consumer Durables index was at 6,007.25, down by 55.83 points or by 0.92%. The
major losers were Titan Industries (2.32%), Rajesh Exports (0.55%), Gitanjali
Gems (0.21%), Videocon Industries (0.09%) and Blue Star (0.03%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 1,259 advances against 1,047
declines.
Value and Volume
Toppers
H C L Technologies
topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,374.16 million. It
was followed by State Bank Of India (Rs. 578.62 million), Reliance Industries
(Rs. 392.95 million) and Larsen & Toubro (Rs. 241.41 million).
The volume chart was
led by Cals Refineries with trades of over 3.78 million shares. It was followed
by Kingfisher Airlines (3.69 million), Lanco Infratech (3.53 million) and Sybly
Industries (3.26 million).
