SENSEX TURNS POSITIVE; STERLITE, HDFC BANK, SBI GAIN

Indian equities turned positive with marginal gain in noon trade on Tuesday. Banking, realty and consumer durables witnessed buying.
sensex was trading up 25.24 points or 0.15% at 16,693.25 with 17 components gaining. meanwhile, the nifty was trading higher by 6.85 points or 0.14% at 5,060.95 with 27 components gaining.
the 30-share benchmark index, bse sensex opened with a decline of 97.50 points or 0.58% at 16,570.51, while the broad based nse nifty started with a fall of 38.60 points or 0.76%, at 5,015.50.
sensex movers
h d f c bank contributed rise of 9.83 points in the sensex. it was followed by infosys (7.51 points), I C I C I bank (6.42 points), larsen & toubro (6.34 points) and state bank of india (5.67 points).
however, i t c contributed fall of 13.25 points in the sensex. it was followed by wipro (6.46 points), housing development finance corporation (5.47 points), reliance industries (5.37 points) and hindustan unilever (4.7 points).
biggest gainers in the 30-share index were sterlite industries (india) (1.33%), h d f c bank (0.82%), state bank of india (0.82%), maruti suzuki india (0.75%), larsen & toubro (0.74%), and hindalco industries (0.58%).
on the other hand, dr reddy`s laboratories (2.22%), wipro (2.21%), tata power company (0.88%), hindustan unilever (0.86%), i t c (0.86%), and jindal steel & power (0.81%) were the biggest losers in the sensex.
mid & small-cap space
the bse mid and small caps underperformed their larger counterparts declining -0.01% and -0.07% respectively.
the major losers in the bse midcap were A I A engineering (1.73%), core education and technologies (1.33%), alstom projects india (0.95%), a b g shipyard (0.49%) and amara raja batteries (0.47%).
the major losers in the bse smallcap were styrolution abs (india) (2.54%), a2z maintenance & engineering services (1.5%), action construction equipment (1.2%), trident (0.94%) and aanjaneya lifecare (0.18%).
the major losers in the bse midcap were A I A engineering (1.73%), core education and technologies (1.33%), alstom projects india (0.95%), a b g shipyard (0.49%) and amara raja batteries (0.47%).

sectors in limelight
the bankex index was at 11,560.19, up by 97.71 points or by 0.85%. the major gainers were canara bank(1.7%), bank of baroda (1.33%), bank of india (1.2%), h d f c bank (0.82%) and federal bank (0.62%).
the consumer durables index was at 6,140.01, up by 48.50 points or by 0.80%. the major gainers were bajaj electricals (3.2%), titan industries (1.09%), whirlpool of india (0.89%), rajesh exports (0.19%) and gitanjali gems (0.02%).
the realty index was at 1,641.74, up by 7.74 points or by 0.47%. the major gainers were prestige estates projects (5.95%), housing development and infrastructure (2.33%), parsvnath developers (1.61%), indiabulls real estate (0.97%) and d l f (0.78%).
on the other hand, the fmcg index was at 4,660.64, down by 28.97 points or by 0.62%. the major losers were nestle india (0.94%), i t c (0.86%), hindustan unilever (0.86%), colgate-palmolive (india) (0.58%) and united breweries (0.17%).
market breadth
market breadth was negative with 1,043 advances against 1,236 declines.
value and volume toppers
state bank of india topped the value chart on the bse with a turnover of rs. 1,149.30 million. it was followed by larsen & toubro (rs. 278.63 million), housing development and infrastructure (rs. 179.15 million) and reliance infrastructure (rs. 168.05 million).
the volume chart was led by gvk power & infrastructure with trades of over 3.20 million shares. it was followed by lanco infratech (2.59 million), housing development and infrastructure (2.40 million) and kingfisher airlines (2.11 million).
