SENSEX TRADES UP 135 POINTS; METAL, OIL & GAS

Indian
markets continued to gain for the fourth day on Thursday. Sensex was trading up 134.94 points or 0.82%
at 16,589.24 with 25 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty
was trading higher by 31.40 points or 0.63% at 5,028.50 with 32 components
gaining.
The 30-share benchmark
index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 123.71 points
or 0.75% at 16,578.01, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of
38.25 points or 0.77%, at 5,035.35.
Sensex Movers
Reliance Industries contributed rise of 33.3 points in the Sensex. It was
followed by Infosys (26.71 points), H D F C Bank (19.26 points), I C I C I Bank
(19.23 points) and Housing Development Finance Corporation
(6.06 points).
However, Tata Consultancy Services contributed fall of 12.08 points in
the Sensex. It was followed by Mahindra & Mahindra (3.92 points), Oil &
Natural Gas Corporation (2.25 points), I T C (2.03 points) and Larsen &
Toubro (1.19 points).
Biggest gainers in the
30-share index were Sterlite Industries (India) (3.10%), Hero Honda Motors
(2.27%), Reliance Industries (2.18%), Infosys Technologies (1.85%), I C I C I
Bank (1.72%), and H D F C Bank (1.68%).
On the other hand,
Tata Consultancy Services (1.36%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.07%), Oil &
Natural Gas Corporation (0.34%), Larsen & Toubro (0.15%), and I T C (0.13%)
were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap
Space
The BSE Mid and small caps underperformed their larger counterparts gaining
0.56% and 0.45% respectively.
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were CORE Education and Technologies (2.29%), Aban Offshore (1.14%), A I A Engineering (0.85%), Alstom Projects India (0.36%) and Allcargo Logistics (0.27%).
The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Aegis Logistics (2.45%), Trident (2.4%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.68%), Reliance MediaWorks (1.32%) and Adhunik Metaliks (0.59%).
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were CORE Education and Technologies (2.29%), Aban Offshore (1.14%), A I A Engineering (0.85%), Alstom Projects India (0.36%) and Allcargo Logistics (0.27%).
The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Aegis Logistics (2.45%), Trident (2.4%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.68%), Reliance MediaWorks (1.32%) and Adhunik Metaliks (0.59%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Metal index was at
10,273.28, up by 137.67 points or by 1.36%. The major gainers were Jindal Steel
& Power (1.26%), Coal India (0.84%), Hindalco Industries (0.83%), NMDC
(0.81%) and Hindustan Zinc (0.8%).
The Oil & Gas
index was at 7,787.90, up by 88.75 points or by 1.15%. The major gainers were
Reliance Industries (2.18%), Cairn India (1.94%), Oil India (0.36%), Petronet
LNG (0.22%) and G A I L (India) (0.06%).
The Bankex index was
at 11,331.28, up by 112.50 points or by 1.00%. The major gainers were I C I C I
Bank (1.72%), H D F C Bank (1.68%), Federal Bank
(0.63%), Bank Of India (0.58%) and Indusind Bank (0.37%).
On the other hand, the
Consumer Durables index was at 6,057.24, down by 5.84 points or by 0.1%. The
major losers were Rajesh Exports (0.7%) and Titan Industries (0.49%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 1,185 advances against 780
declines.
Value and Volume
Toppers
State Bank Of India
topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 390.15 million. It was
followed by Larsen & Toubro (Rs. 193.47 million), Tata Motors (Rs. 184.43
million) and Jubilant FoodWorks (Rs. 178.73 million).
The volume chart was
led by Cals Refineries with trades of over 3.60 million shares. It was followed
by Kingfisher Airlines (3.01 million), Lanco Infratech
(2.64 million) and Suzlon Energy (1.21 million).
