SENSEX SHEDS SOME LOSSES; METAL, CG, OIL & GAS DRAG

Indian equities having pared some of its losses, continues to trade in the negative terrain. Metal, capital goods and oil & gas stocks fell the most.
Sensex was trading down 45.75 points or 0.27% at 17,198.09 with 18 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 16.10 points or 0.31% at 5,227.50 with 34 components falling.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a decline of 117.88 points or 0.68% at 17,125.96, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a fall of 34.15 points or 0.65%, at 5,209.45.
Sensex Movers
Reliance Industries contributed fall of 19.34 points in the Sensex. It was followed by I T C (11.45 points), Tata Consultancy Services (7.44 points), Larsen & Toubro (6.48 points) and Bharti Airtel (5.68 points).
However, Infosys contributed rise of 8.93 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (2.46 points), State Bank Of India (2.19 points), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (1.42 points) and NTPC (1.4 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Infosys Technologies (0.55%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.52%), G A I L (India) (0.50%), NTPC (0.43%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.36%), and State Bank Of India (0.30%).
On the other hand, Jindal Steel & Power (2.53%), Sterlite Industries (India) (2.21%), Reliance Industries (1.22%), Tata Steel (1.13%), Bharti Airtel (1.10%), and Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.06%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Midcap index was at 6364.09 down by 6.36 points or by 0.1%.
The major losers were Alok Industries (1.49%), A B G Shipyard (1.28%), Alstom Projects India (1.06%), Aban Offshore (0.71%) and CORE Education and Technologies (0.6%).

Sectors in Limelight
The Metal index was at 10,744.02, down by 122.75 points or by 1.13%. The major losers were Jindal Steel & Power (2.53%), Hindustan Zinc (1.84%), NMDC (0.8%), Hindalco Industries (0.24%) and JSW Steel (0.24%).
The Capital Goods index was at 9,862.97, down by 73.42 points or by 0.74%. The major losers were BEML (2.19%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.06%), Alstom Projects India (1.06%), Bharat Electronics (0.44%) and A B B (0.29%).
The Oil & Gas index was at 7,924.03, down by 45.27 points or by 0.57%. The major losers were Gujarat State Petronet (2.89%), Petronet LNG (1.78%), Oil India (1.57%), Reliance Industries (1.22%) and Cairn India (0.73%).
On the other hand, the HC index was at 6,634.46, up by 46.67 points or by 0.71%. The major gainers were Divis Laboratories (0.88%), Dr Reddy`S Laboratories (0.86%), Apollo Hospitals Enterprise (0.35%), Cadila Healthcare (0.26%) and Cipla (0.14%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 1,273 advances against 1,330 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
State Bank Of India topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 501.18 million. It was followed by Indraprastha Gas (Rs. 439.67 million), Shriram Transport Finance Company (Rs. 369.14 million) and Housing Development Finance Corporation (Rs. 342.40 million).
The volume chart was led by Kingfisher Airlines with trades of over 15.09 million shares. It was followed by Spicejet (7.42 million), Avance Technologies (5.16 million) and I V R C L (4.71 million).
