SENSEX FLAT; RIL, TCS, M&M FALL

Indian markets dropped on Thursday erasing earlier gains. Sensex was trading down 50.54 points or 0.30% at 16,846.09 with 20 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 15.60 points or 0.30% at 5,104.95 with 36 components falling.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a decline of 41.03 points or 0.24% at 16,855.60, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a fall of 23.20 points or 0.45%, at 5,097.35.
Sensex Movers
Reliance Industries contributed fall of 37.7 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Infosys (14.4 points), Tata Consultancy Services (14.03 points), State Bank Of India (7.37 points) and Mahindra & Mahindra (4.48 points).
However, I T C contributed rise of 11.33 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Larsen & Toubro (7.43 points), Bharat Heavy Electricals (4.74 points), Bharti Airtel (3.6 points) and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (3.3 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Bharat Heavy Electricals (2.16%), Tata Power Company (1.35%), Larsen & Toubro (0.86%), Bharti Airtel (0.74%), I T C (0.71%), and Hero Honda Motors (0.56%).
On the other hand, Reliance Industries (2.45%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.60%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.19%), State Bank Of India (1.07%), Infosys Technologies (1.00%), and Hindalco Industries (0.82%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.07% and 0.20% respectively.
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were A I A Engineering (1.35%), Alstom Projects India (0.89%), A B G Shipyard (0.32%), CORE Education and Technologies (0.29%) and Alok Industries (0.28%).
The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Trident (2.75%), Aanjaneya Lifecare (0.73%), Styrolution ABS (India) (0.56%), Aarti Industries (0.48%) and A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (0.44%).
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were A I A Engineering (1.35%), Alstom Projects India (0.89%), A B G Shipyard (0.32%), CORE Education and Technologies (0.29%) and Alok Industries (0.28%).
The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Trident (2.75%), Aanjaneya Lifecare (0.73%), Styrolution ABS (India) (0.56%), Aarti Industries (0.48%) and A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (0.44%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Capital Goods index was at 9,710.61, up by 119.68 points or by 1.25%. The major gainers were A B B (2.34%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (2.16%), A I A Engineering (1.35%), Bharat Electronics (1.11%) and Alstom Projects India (0.89%).
The Power index was at 1,868.73, up by 8.42 points or by 0.45%. The major gainers were A B B (2.34%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (2.16%), Siemens (2.08%), Crompton Greaves (1.63%) and Lanco Infratech (0.29%).
The FMCG index was at 4,842.69, up by 19.74 points or by 0.41%. The major gainers were Dabur India (3.55%), I T C (0.71%), Tata Global Beverages (0.42%), United Breweries (0.36%) and United Spirits (0.33%).
On the other hand, the Oil & Gas index was at 7,888.19, down by 91 points or by 1.14%. The major losers were Reliance Industries (2.45%), Cairn India (2.38%), Petronet LNG (1.12%), Gujarat State Petronet (0.55%) and G A I L (India) (0.55%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 843 advances against 748 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
State Bank Of India topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 147.23 million. It was followed by Larsen & Toubro (Rs. 124.60 million), Reliance Industries (Rs. 109.37 million) and Bharat Heavy Electricals (Rs. 86.58 million).
The volume chart was led by Kingfisher Airlines with trades of over 1.77 million shares. It was followed by Lanco Infratech (1.61 million), Spicejet (1.40 million) and Wire and Wireless (India) (0.77 million).
